Cape Town – The police in Mpumalanga have confirmed the death of a 43-year-old man, Eric Tshifhiwa Phaswane, who went to a river stream with a pastor to pray on Wednesday, June 13, 2022, but fell and drowned.
In a statement, police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said that the police Diving Unit responded to the scene and did everything they could to find Phaswane’s body, but they were unsuccessful.
The search continued for days without any success until the divers finally retrieved his body on Saturday, June, 25,2022.

Following the tragic incident, an inquest has been opened.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela urged the public to exercise caution when visiting dams and rivers.
” The incident is unfortunate and regrettable. We therefore request community members to think twice before coming closer to the rivers or dams for whatever reason as this might place their lives at risk,” said Manamela.
