Cape Town — Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, confirmed that four people have been arrested in connection to the food-related illnesses that have been reported in Gauteng.
Motsoaledi delivered the news during the African National Congress (ANC) Special National Executive Meeting (NEC) on Friday and confirmed that illegal chemicals were being sold, eNCA reported.
“During that search, they did confess that there is an illegal chemical that they buy from a mall on Johannesburg. 27 officials visited that mall and they confiscated 1 456 gram of that chemical, and four people were arrested. One man and three women,” Motsoaledi said.
He confirmed that two suspects were released on R2 000 bail and the other remain in custody.
He said the department was under pressure from the public that they are not doing anything while people are dying but he said work has been done.
