Cape Town – A Gauteng motorist reportedly called out the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) for giving him a fine, when their own vehicle disc expired in 2020.
The motorist was stopped and issued a fine by the JMPD members but he decided to check if the members themselves were abiding by the law.
To his shock, the JMPD vehicle had an expired disc.
The motorist claimed that he found the two discs had expired on September 30, 2020, reported IOL.
But, according to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, officers could not be blamed for the situation, as it was a service provider issue.

Fihla said that the department was aware that some vehicles, including a Toyota Quantum and Nissan Impenulo minibus, had expired licence discs, reported News24.
“There was a challenge with the renewals of the vehicles … because the JMPD business register number was blocked at the licencing department, and this made it impossible to licence these vehicles,” the report quoted Fihla as saying.
He said that the matter had since been resolved and the vehicles would be receiving new licence discs, said Fihla.
