Cape Town – A lottery winner has reportedly said that money is the root of all evil after losing her R183 million lottery winnings in just ten years.
According to reports, Sharon Tirabassi from Canada became a multimillionaire after she bagged a massive $10 million in the Lotto Super 7 in 2004.
The US Sun reported that the 35-year-old, who grew up moving from shelter to shelter, allegedly got married and upgraded her lifestyle, spending her winnings on a huge house, lavish trips, luxury cars and designer clothes.
The couple’s expensive cars included a Hummer, a Mustang, a Dodge Charger and a Cadillac Escalade and gave her parents $1million and split $1.75million between her four siblings.
The report said she also used her winnings to pay people’s rent, help out a friend when her husband went to jail, and help two friends launch a business.
“Money is the root of all evil,” she was quoted saying while her husband Vinny alleged “friends that she hadn’t talked to in a long time came calling. Money doesn’t buy you happiness. It caused her a lot of headaches”.
In just 10 years, she lost it all and has to work again and one day realised there was just $750 000 left in her bank account, reported IOL.
She admitted: “And that was time for the fun to stop and to just go back to life,” the report quoted her as saying.
The report said Tirabassi rents a house in Hamilton with her husband and six children. She has applied for part-time job to help pay rent.
However, she admits she is much happier working as a personal support worker, the report said.
