Cape Town – A woman aged 36 was reportedly arrested after she dangled her three-year-old daughter out of a 5th-floor window in Umbilo, Durban last week.
According to IOL, the eThekwini metro police were informed about the incident after the woman was seen dangling the toddler out the window of a building in Teignmouth Road.
eThekwini District spokesperson, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said the Durban Flying Squad officers managed to engage with the mother through a locked entrance gate.

“While the rescue team set up a high angle rope system from the eighth floor, to conduct a pick-off grab, the negotiators took over the verbal engagement with the mother, who moved away from the window to talk with the negotiators,” News24 quoted Rhynes as saying.
The mother then slammed the door and a few minutes later, returned to the window where she dangled the child out of the window again while screaming at officers, the report said.
The officers managed to abseil down to the open window while the special task force simultaneously breached the flat.
The woman and child were rescued.
The woman was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Her daughter was taken into the care of police negotiators.
