Cape Town – Former South African Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, who was recently fired due to findings of misconduct and incompetence, remains confident that she will receive a one-time gratuity payment of approximately R10 million.
While her removal from office was based on a parliamentary vote and recommendations from a section 194 inquiry report, Mkhwebane argues that her seven-year appointment contract entitles her to this gratuity.
The South African constitution does not specify what happens to this payment in case of removal.
Legal experts have debated whether she will indeed receive the funds, making her removal a subject of interest in the legal community.
According to Times Live, the exact amount of the gratuity is estimated to be around R9.55 million, but it remains unclear.
