Cape Town – The body of a missing Soweto jogger was reportedly found “bungled” in a dilapidated toilet at Shap Stadium on Sunday morning.
It was alleged that Shirley Mtiyane was last seen on Thursday morning last week when she went for her usual morning jog.
Reports said that the 67-year-old’s family reported her missing at the Orlando police station after they found her handbag and car keys.
According to Mtiyane’s nephew, Moeketsi Duiker, the family was devastated by the death of Mtiyane, who was “loved by everybody”, TimesLIVE reported.
The report said that Mtiyane’s body was found with the help of the community members at the overgrown Shap Stadium close to Mofolo Park.

“The way she was there is obviously foul play. It was not like she was running and fell. She was bundled in an empty toilet. At this moment we don’t know what happened, but you could see she didn’t just fall there,” Duiker said.
The family alleged that there were numerous bruises on Mtiyane’s body, SABC News reported.
Phindile Simelane who was part of the search described the state of Mtiyane’s body as “in a bad way” and called on the community to help bring Mtiyane’s killer to books, the report said.
“When I say in a bad way, I’m not well. We can’t (be) in the society that we live in now, find ourselves where umama, an aunty, a grandmother who was selfless … whoever did that it’s a shame. Now, we are calling upon the community to stand together. We can’t let perpetrators do as they please. Public safety, we need you here. It can’t be,” the report quoted Simelane as saying.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the police had since opened an inquest docket for further investigations.
