Cape Town – University of Free State (UFS) first-year student Kwandiswa Masibonge Xaba, who went missing on June 4, 2022, has been found unharmed, the university said on Sunday, adding that she has since been reunited with her family.
In a statement, the university said Xaba, 18, was a first-year Bachelor of Science student on the Qwaqwa Campus, majoring in Mathematics and Chemistry.
“She was last seen leaving the campus and taking a taxi to an undisclosed location; she was also observed on other video footage in Phuthaditjhaba during the time she was missing,” said the university.
According to The South African, Warrant Officer Thipa Selepe was tasked with investigating and locating Xaba.

Selepe started his investigation by following the leads from Xaba’s school friends and this led him to Maluti Cresent Mall in Phuthaditjhaba.
He obtained CCV footage from the mall that showed Xaba getting into a taxi bound for Standerton in Mpumalanga.
Selepe used cellphone towers to trace Xaba but he was unsuccessful.
As Xaba’s photos circulated on social media, her new boyfriend from Tembisa in Gauteng noticed the alerts and contacted the police, saying that Xaba was with him.
Xaba was discovered unharmed and dressed in the same clothes she was last seen in. She was reunited with her family in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal.
