Cape Town – A 41-year-old driver was arrested for speeding by Gauteng Traffic police after he was caught driving at 208km/h on the R21 freeway.
The Mercedes-Benz driver was arrested on Tuesday night, traffic police said.
He was found excessively driving at 208km/h in a prescribed maximum speed limit of 120km/h, said Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson, Sello Maremane in a statement.
“The driver was formally charged at Kempton (Park) police station for reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge for exceeding the speed limit.” said Maremane.

Maremane said they are concerned about the reckless and negligent driving that the province continued to experience on Gauteng major roads.
He said that Gauteng traffic police will continue patrolling hazardous locations and arrest those who disregarded the rules of the road.
“The Gauteng Traffic Police will continue in its concerted efforts of patrolling hazardous locations in order to save the lives of road users and anyone found disregarding the rules of the road will be brought to book to face the full might of the law,” said Maremane.
