Cape Town – The ANC secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, on Friday expressed support for ending Western sanctions against Zimbabwe, North Korea, and Cuba during an event at the Chinese embassy.
Mbalula was accompanied by Maropene Ramokgopa, the ANC’s second deputy secretary-general, who also holds a ministerial position in the Presidency.
This joint appearance was intended to demonstrate the governing party’s endorsement prior to China President Xi Jinping’s upcoming state visit with President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday, News24 reported.

The event occurred just before the Brics summit, where South Africa and China are set to hold an Africa-China dialogue.
Mbalula emphasised the ANC’s alignment with the Chinese Communist Party and their shared goals as part of the non-aligned movement and anti-imperialist forces.
He advocated for multilateralism in economic and trade matters instead of unilateral blockades against countries like Cuba, Zimbabwe, and North Korea.
Additionally, Mbalula urged for more substantial investment in South Africa’s mining industry and local mineral beneficiation.
