Cape Town – The mayor of Tswelopele Municipality in the Free State, Kenalemang Phukuntsi, appeared in Hoopstad Magistrate Court on Friday facing charges of theft of goods worth R60 000 from several shops owned by foreign nationals.
In a statement, Free State police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said that Phukuntsi, 51, visited several shops of foreigners and alleged that they were selling expired groceries.

“It is alleged that she took from their shops items including cosmetics, vegetables, groceries, pampers, petrol cleaners and diesel cleaners. The items taken from the shops are estimated to be R60 000,” Thakeng said.
She was charged with five counts of theft and crimen injuria.
Phukuntsi was granted bail and her case was postponed until April 22 for further investigation, said Thakeng
