Cape Town – A 20-year-old matric student was reportedly murdered on Friday while waiting to buy a newspaper to check his results in Pietermaritzburg.
According to reports, the incident happened outside a garage along Alexandra Road.
He was shot in the head in full view of other pupils and community members in the early hours of Friday.
“This day was meant to be the day we celebrate his good results, however, we are mourning his death,” The Witness quoted his distraught family as saying.
KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu said the student and his friends were waiting for the newspapers as a group from MandlakaZulu High in Imbali.

Suddenly five men approached the unsuspecting pupil aand demanded his cellphone.
When he refused to hand it over “they opened fire, killing him instantly … and fled the scene in an unidentified car”, said Mshengu, according to Times Live.
Mshengu condemned the senseless killing, saying the KZN Education Department had sent its condolences to the family.
He called upon the law enforcement agencies in South Africa “to deal with this matter speedily and apprehend the murderers”, EWN reported.
