Cape Town – The 2024 matric exams are set to begin on Monday, with over 882,000 candidates ready to write.
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube confirmed on Sunday that exam papers have undergone quality assurance, security measures are in place, and exam centres are fully prepared.
“With just hours to go before the first paper is written, I’m proud to announce that we are ready to administer the 2024 NSC exams — holding ourselves to best-in-class integrity, security and efficiency of standards,” the minister said.

This year’s students, who started high school during the Covid-19 pandemic, have been supported through various interventions like extra tuition, extended school hours, and online resources.
Special accommodations have been made for students with disabilities, and strict security measures have been implemented to maintain exam integrity.
Gwarube praised the resilience of the Class of 2024 and expressed confidence in their readiness.
