Cape Town – Parliament has released its annual register of members’ interests, marking the quickest publication of such a register in just 24 days after the declaration deadline.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile, who faced allegations of receiving free luxury accommodation, declared two properties and some personal items but no sponsored benefits or travel, EWN reported.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, appearing in the register for the first time, disclosed three properties, corporate gifts, a cellphone, and a computer tablet.
Other notable entries include Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen, who declared Durban July tickets and sponsored travel for a workshop in Poland, and Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema, who declared remunerated employment outside of Parliament from his farming business, family trust memberships, and small gifts from a single donor.
Times Live reported that exclusive Australian wine worth almost R10,000 a bottle, a 2015 Range Rover worth R730,000, a World Cup engraved tea set worth R45 000, Macallan 12-year-old whisky which retails for R1 300 a bottle and Jimmy Choo perfume were some of the items declared by the MPs.
