Cape Town – Police in Gauteng have launched a manhunt after a cash-in-transit van was reportedly attacked and bombed by seven suspects in Tembisa.
The incident occurred when a white Mercedes Benz C-Class rammed the cash van on Montjane Street in Liliba Section.
The suspects, armed with firearms, forced the G4S guards out of the van before detonating explosives, News24 reported.
“According to a preliminary report, seven suspects started shooting and took the G4S guards out of the van before they bombed it,” the report quoted National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe as saying.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack.
The suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of money in a white Ford Ranger with a Limpopo registration.
One G4S guard lost his 9mm pistol during the robbery.
A manhunt has been launched for the perpetrators, and anyone with information is urged to contact the police anonymously at 080010111.
