Cape Town – The family of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the founder of IFP and traditional Zulu prime minister, says his health has deteriorated.
The family revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Buthelezi is currently in the hospital receiving medical attention.
He initially underwent a procedure for back pain management and was discharged but later readmitted when the pain did not subside, the family said.
“As previously indicated, Prince Buthelezi underwent a procedure for back pain management, following which he was discharged from hospital.

“However, when his back pain did not subside sufficiently, he was readmitted for further treatment and recovery,” the family said.
It added: “He has since developed a complication and therefore remains in hospital at this stage to receive the necessary care.
Reports on Tuesday suggested he was in the intensive care unit and unable to speak.
The family asked for privacy and space for him to recuperate, as they hoped he could celebrate his 95th birthday later this month.
