Cape Town – A Gauteng man was reportedly stabbed to death following an argument over an illegal electricity connection.
It is alleged the incident occurred on November 13 at an informal settlement in Kaalfontein, Midrand.
The 32-year-old man allegedly died at a local clinic shortly after the incident, reports said.
Ivory police spokesperson, Captain Ben Matimulane said the fight was between the owners of formal stands and people from the adjacent informal settlement, the Daily Sun reported.
He said the victim apparently came home from an outing and was told that some people known to them came and took out an electric cable, leaving them without electricity.
“The victim went to investigate, and came back immediately after, as the person allegedly responsible for taking the cable was not found,” the report quoted Matimulane as saying.
Shortly afterwards, another man whom the deceased had a scuffle with came with a group of people and the victim was stabbed once in the cheek during the mix-up, he said.

A source who chose to remain anonymous alleged the deceased had been beaten with a frying pan by the wife of the suspect who later stabbed the deceased to death, reports News24.
The person suspected of the murder had since fled the area, the source said.
According to ward councillor, Charmaine Ngoepe illegal electricity connections had been a problem in the area for some time.
“Extention 5 and 4 in Kaalfontein and Allendale have been without electricity. This is because they have been waiting for a transformer for over nine months,” the report quoted Ngoepe as saying.
Ngoepe said as a result many residents “informally connected” to the electricity grid of the “formal settlement”.
Attempts to caution against resorting to illegal connections proved futile, said Ngoepe.
