Cape Town – A Durban man was shot dead at the popular Umhlanga Beach Whale-bone Pier, following an alleged altercation with a suspect.
Medi Response paramedics responded to calls about a shooting at about 10:45 on Tuesday.
“On arrival of paramedics, it was reported that a man was walking on the pier when [another] man approached him and allegedly produced a firearm, shooting him once in the stomach before fleeing,” Medi Response said in a statement.
It is alleged that the gunman was apprehended and detained by private security officers.
Paramedics initiated advanced life support resuscitation on the victim, but after extensive attempts, the man was declared dead on the scene, Medi Response said.
East Coast Radio reported that the 36-year-old was at the whale bone pier with his family.
“Officials broke the news to the victim’s mother who was at the scene,” the report said.
