Cape Town – A 36-year-old Limpopo man has been arrested for murder following a tragic accident that claimed the life of his seven-month-old son.
The man was hunting for birds in Maololo, Ga-Mashabela village when he allegedly shot and killed his son with a pellet rifle.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the pellet rifle has since been confiscated.
“Police attended to the complaint after the child’s parents rushed him (baby) to the local clinic where he was certified dead on arrival after he suffered a gunshot to the chest.

“Both parents were interviewed, and it was revealed that the child’s father was hunting for birds with a pellet rifle next to their home when the child was accidentally shot,” Ledwaba said.
The suspect was arrested and charged with murder and an investigation into the circumstance of the shooting is under way.
Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Scheepers urge citizens to “practise safety at all times when handling these types of weapons”.
The man is expected to appear at the Nabo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
