Cape Town – A Mpumalanga man reportedly handed himself over to police after shooting dead three members of his wife’s family.
The incident occurred over the weekend.
Times Live reported on Monday that his wife was fighting for her life following the incident.
“According to information, an argument started between the man and his wife when he visited his wife’s family.
“The situation turned violent when he allegedly drew a pistol and shot at his wife, father-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Only the wife survived. She is said to be in a critical condition in hospital, the report quoted police as saying.
Such incidents are not rare. In December 2021, seven family members, including four children, were gunned down by another family member in Jimmy Jones Village just outside Malamulele in Limpopo.
According to News24, the alleged suspect killed his two brothers, four children, and the pregnant wife of one of the brothers.
“Shortly after midnight, the suspect, who is employed as a nurse, shot and killed his two brothers, a wife who was pregnant and four children, using his licensed firearm],” the report quoted police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo as saying at the time.
The man handed himself over at a police station in Thohoyandou after initially fleeing the scene, EWN reported at the time.
