Cape Town – A man, 40, was airlifted to hospital after he was attacked by a shark while freediving at Mdumbi Beach in the Eastern Cape.
National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said they received a call about the incident on Monday afternoon.
“On arrival on the scene, it was found that a local adult man had sustained lacerations from a shark bite and he was in a stable condition,” said NSRI.
NSRI said the man was stabilised and airlifted to the hospital in the care of EMS paramedics for further medical care.
According to Times LIVE, the man is reportedly in a stable condition.

The report said a Mercy Wing 9, the provincial EMS helicopter was dispatched to airlift the man to Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital.
“The patient sustained an injury to his shoulder and was reported to be in a stable condition,” the report quoted Eastern Cape health department spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo as saying.
Kupelo said the man was diving for crayfish when he was attacked.
