Cape Town – A 59-year-old man has been arrested by Bethelsdorp police in Gqeberha after his ex-wife, 57-year-old Desiree Baartman, went missing.
Baartman was last seen on June 9.
The couple had continued living together despite their divorce, The Citizen reported.

“It is alleged that on the mentioned date, at approximately 10:00, Desiree Baartman left her house in Nagel Street, Extention 29, Bethelsdorp. She never returned home.
“Inquiries were made with family and friends where she frequently visited, but they were unable to trace her and on Wednesday 14 June 2023, she was reported missing at SAPS Bethelsdorp,” said police spokesperson Sandra Janse Van Rensburg.
Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu said forensic experts carried out a thorough investigation at the couple’s residence on June 16 and 17, leading to the detention of Baartman’s ex-husband for further questioning.
During the search, a firearm was confiscated, raising concerns about the nature of the case.
Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing Baartman to urgently contact SAPS Bethelsdorp on 071 475 1953 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
