Cape Town – The High Court in Pretoria reportedly sentenced 57-year-old Mojalefa Simon Mokoena on Wednesday to 25 years of direct imprisonment for attacking a lesbian couple last year, killing one of them.
According to News24, Bonang Precious Gaelae and her partner Fracinah Mohanoe, went to Mokoena’s tuck shop to buy airtime last year in February.
However, an altercation broke out.
“Mokoena assaulted the couple, who decided to leave and go buy the airtime elsewhere. As they left, Mokoena went to his house to get a knife and waited for them. When he saw them approaching, he threw a brick at them, which hit Mohanoe. He proceeded to stab her and her partner,” said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana as quoted by the report.

Mokoena was stopped by community members who called the police.
The couple was taken to the nearest hospital where Gaelae was pronounced dead on arrival, according to Times Live.
Mokoena was arrested the next day.
He had been detained since then after failing to obtain bail.
The High Court in Pretoria handed Mokoena a 25-year sentence for premeditated murder, an eight-year sentence for attempted murder, and a five-year sentence for the two counts of assault.
The sentences run concurrently, said the report.
