Cape Town – Kholofelo Nonyane, 37, of Limpopo has reportedly been sentenced to ten years imprisonment by eMalahleni regional court for attempted murder on his 21-year-old girlfriend.
According to IOL, Nonyane and his girlfriend had a heated argument in Coronation, where they were staying, in December 2019.
“While the victim (the girlfriend) was asleep, the accused (Nonyane) poured paraffin on her, set her alight in a locked room, and fled the scene. The victim sustained injuries on her body,” the report quoted National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Mpumalanga provincial spokesperson Monica Nyuswa as saying.

Nonyane was later arrested after he was found in his hide-out in Shatale, Bushbuckridge.
The landlord testified that they heard the girlfriend screaming and said that she was “badly burnt”, reported Times Live.
“Their evidence corroborated the testimony of the doctor who treated the victim when she arrived in hospital,” said Nyuswa, according to the report.
The court sentenced Nonyane to 10 years imprisonment and declared him unfit to possess a firearm as part of the sentence.
