Cape Town – Police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested a 33-year-old man accused of six counts of murder and one attempted murder this week.
Xolani Mavela appeared before the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 8 June.
In a statement, police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that Mavela and the other suspect that was still at large, forced entry into a house and opened fire on the victims.
“It is alleged that victims aged between 24 and 35 were at Zamani informal settlement in Umlazi sleeping when the two suspects forced entry and opened fire on the victims,” Ngcobo said.

The victims aged between 25 and 34 died on the scene.
“A case docket, which included six counts of murder and one attempted murder, was opened at the Umlazi police station for investigation,” said Ngcobo.
