Cape Town – A male patient reportedly died at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria after jumping from the window of its ward, on the sixth floor, and landed on the third floor.
According to IOL, the hospital spokesperson Lovey Mogapi confirmed the incident.
“We confirm the incident. Yes, the patient attempted suicide [by] jumping out of the ward on the sixth floor and landed on the third floor, and sustained serious injuries,” the report quoted Mogapi as saying.

The incident occurred just a few weeks after a 33-year-old male patient fell to his death from the seventh floor of the Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital building in Bloemfontein.
He was found “lying in a pool of blood”.
The man had not shown any breathing complications and was not confused or suicidal.
“The patient was not confused at any point and did not exhibit signs of alcohol or substance withdrawal. He remained fully conscious and was interactive with ward staff. There was no suicidal ideation and and no psychosis,” said the health department spokesperson Mondli Mvambi, as quoted by Times Live at the time.
