Cape Town – The death toll from the Lusikisiki mass shooting in the Eastern Cape has risen to 18, with the latest victim passing away in hospital.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, but no new developments have emerged.
“The SAPS can confirm that the eighteenth victim passed away at the hospital today, 29 September 2024. There are no other new developments. However, the police investigation is underway,” police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said.

According to The Citizen, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu described the killings as “senseless” and said that investigators are working diligently to find clues and bring the perpetrators to justice.
A manhunt is underway, with national police commissioner General Fannie Masemola deploying a specialised team of detectives and forensic experts to track down the assailants.
The mass shooting occurred on Friday night in two separate homes in Ngobozana village, where 13 people, including 12 women, were killed in one home, and four others were killed in a second house.
The victims’ families have been moved to places of safety as the investigation continues.
