Cape Town – A man, Sphelele Gcabashe from Umlazi, south of Durban, was reportedly kidnapped, assaulted, and tortured.
According to News24, the kidnappers recorded these gruesome acts and sent the videos to his family members.
Gcabashe had last been seen on Wednesday when he received a call for a meeting in Durban city centre but never returned home.
Instead, videos of him covered in blood were sent to his relatives, and some were even posted on his WhatsApp status.
In one video, Gcabashe conveyed his last words, while in another, his lifeless body was shown, the report quoted his uncle, Bhekisisa Mncube, as saying.
This traumatic experience has deeply affected his family, especially the children who received the distressing videos, Mncube said.
The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of R36 000, and when the family contacted Gcabashe’s phone, he requested the money, expressing distress and a lack of recognition of his location.
Eventually, Gcabashe’s lifeless body was found in a township, and he had succumbed to his injuries.
The case is now being investigated as a murder by the police, the report said.
The family is devastated, hoping for justice and appealing to the National Anti-Kidnapping Task Team to take over the case.
