Cape Town – Social media users have blamed potholes for the car accident that involved KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Ms Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni on Tuesday.
In a statement, issued via the provincial government’s official Facebook page, Nkonyeni was from a meeting with KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala and Zulu king Misuzulu kaZwelithini in Ulundi when the tyre on the car burst on the R66.
Nkonyeni was accompanied by her bodyguards at the time of the incident.
Zikalala assured the people of the province that Nkonyeni and her bodyguards were getting the best medical care possible.

“MEC Nkonyeni is currently undergoing complete medical evaluation. She is fully conscious and alert with the Premier and the Director-General by her side at the hospital.
“On behalf of the people and government of KwaZulu-Natal we wish MEC Nkonyeni and her protectors a speedy recovery,” said Premier Zikalala.
On the other hand, many tweeps expressed concern about the poor condition of roads in KwaZulu-Natal, leading many to believe that potholes were the primary cause of the tyre burst.
