Cape Town — Longwe Twala, the son of legendary music producer, Sello “Chicco” Twala, appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for being in contempt of court.
Twala was arrested in Diepkloof on Tuesday after an arrest warrant was issued against him for failing to appear in court on 29 October. He had also allegedly broken into his father’s house in September and stole clothes, household items and equipment worth more than R200 000, TimesLIVE reported.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) spokesperson, Phindi Mjonodwane, said Twala told the court he failed to appear in court as he was feeling ill and had informed his aunt of his sickness, SABC News reported.
“When someone is absent from court, the court must hold an inquiry to establish the absence from court. Such an inquiry was held and the accused was allowed to explain his absence,” she said.
“He stated that he was ill, the court requested a medical certificate if he has consulted a doctor, and he confirmed that he did not consult any doctor but he confirmed that he informed his aunt that he was sick,” she added.
