Cape Town – The body of a missing 21-month-old baby girl, Motheo Rashilo was found in the bushes near Malatane in Lebowakgomo on Wednesday.
Limpopo police have since opened an inquest docket, police said in a statement.
Moetheo was reported missing on Friday October 28 after her mother allegedly left her at her friend’s place while she ran errands.
“When she returned she was informed that the child had disappeared. The mother reported the matter to Lebowakgomo police station. Police started investigations and search operations which led to the discovery of the body on Wednesday,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi.

It was not clear how the child got to the bushes, but the investigation would show the cause of death, said Seabi.
An earlier report said preliminary investigations revealed that the child was taken by an unknown person.
He added that after the case was opened, preliminary investigations revealed that the child was indeed taken by an unknown person.
