Mkhwanazi also noted that AKA and Tibz’ case has attracted a lot of public interest and is of interest to both local and international media. He said any communications and developments in the case will be communicated with the families first, before letting the public know.
“Investigations into that particular matter is at a sensitive stage and the police do not wish to communicate any information that may comprise the investigation process. The ‘AKA’ and Tibs’ murder case is a complex one and there was and still are tons of evidential information to be analysed and processed.”
“This is a prosecution-led investigation and when the police have tied all the loose ends and covered all the loopholes, an announcement into the investigation and the progress thereof will be communicated.” he added.
According to The Citizen, earlier reports by other publications suggested that AKA and Tibz’ alleged killers were arrested in eSwatini. It was believed that the suspects were nabbed and arrested on 23 February 2023. However, police have treaded lightly with regard to information given to the public, due to the high-profile nature of the investigation.
According to Police Minister, Bheki Cele, murder investigation was at an advanced stage and it was just “a matter of time” before the culprits were brought to book.
The fact that the getaway car was found, the gun itself has been found, some of the witnesses I’m told are in protection order, means it’s a case that has really covered some ground. We just need to get that particular person,” he said.
