Pietermaritzburg — The Department of Health in Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) was shocked to discover the tragic death of 39-year-old paediatrician, Dr Zamambo Mkhize.
On Friday 22 March, Mkhize was found dead in the boot of her vehicle with abrasions on her face and a single gunshot wound to her head at around 8pm on Friday evening. Her husband had reported her missing when she failed to return home from work. Her body was found just 3km away from Harry Gwala Hospital, where she worked.
KZN Health spokesperson, Mdu Ncalane, said she left work at 2pm to attend to a family emergency as she had to take her child to the hospital, EWN reported.
“She reported for duty on the day and left early to attend to an emergency at home but never arrived. The department urges SAPS to leave no stone unturned in investigating and apprehending the perpetrators.” Ncalane said.

Provincial hprovincial health spokesperson Ntokozo Maphisa, also extended wishes to the family for their loss, according to TimesLIVE.
“We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues for this great loss. This is a huge loss to the department and the medical fraternity as her profession is critical to saving lives on a daily basis,” he said.
KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said Plessislaer officers are investigating the murder.
“Police responded to the scene and found the body of a woman with what looked like assault marks and a gunshot wound,” said Netshiunda. He added that the sispects are currently unknown at this stage and the motive has yet to be rstablished, but robbery could not be ruled out.
