Cape Town – Flash floods and drowning-related incidents in KwaZulu-Natal have resulted in a death toll of 23, with at least five individuals still missing.
The severe weather has caused damage to buildings, roads, and bridges in the province.
Search and rescue operations, including a week-long effort in Ladysmith, are ongoing.

Police are looking for a 39-year-old traditional healer who drowned in the Laycentre River during cleansing rituals, EWN quoted police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda as saying.
“The search, however, continues for a 39-year-old traditional healer who drowned in the Laycentre River in Edendale on 26 December. The woman was performing cleansing rituals with 15 other people when she was swept away. After the recovery of the bodies of two people, whose vehicle was swept into Henley Dam in Plessislaer on Monday, a search will continue for the third person who was also an occupant in the same vehicle,” Netshiunda said.
Additionally, the search continues for the third occupant of a vehicle swept into Henley Dam in Plessislaer.
The region is bracing for more rain and storms in the coming week.
