Cape Town – Mdumiseni Zuma, a key figure in the 2021 civil unrest, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, with 2 years suspended, for charges related to public violence and incitement to commit arson.
The sentencing took place in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
The judgement was handed down in September, and Zuma has now been formally sentenced for his role in the events, The Citizen reported.
Zuma faced charges related to the extensive looting and vandalism at Pietermaritzburg Brookside Shopping Mall.

At the time, the 36-year-old worked as a security guard at the mall and was accused of recording a video urging people to engage in the looting, SABC News reported.
In his, Zuma argued that it was a prank and contended that he was under the influence of alcohol during the incident, the report said.
