Nairobi – Kenyan motor rally driver Maxine Wahome was charged with domestic assault on Wednesday following an incident involving her boyfriend and fellow rally driver Asad Khan.
Wahome, 26, won acclaim when she became the first Kenyan woman to win the third-tier WRC Safari Rally in June.
She appeared in court in Nairobi and was released on a 100 000 Kenyan shillings ($815) cash bail.

Prosecutors, who had requested she be detained for a fortnight, told the court Wahome had attacked her 50-year-old boyfriend at their apartment on Monday.
“Khan is admitted at a High Dependency Unit in critical condition with serious deep cuts on the right ankle,” state prosecutor James Gachoka said.
Wahome has denied the charges.
The family of Khan put out an appeal on social media on Tuesday, calling for blood donations.
