Cape Town — City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Transport, Kenny Kunene, said he would offer a R100 000 reward to anyone with information that would lead to the arrest of those responsible for the murder of two Rea Vaya bus drivers.
Rea Vaya suspended its bus services on Monday after the fatal shooting of two drivers who were killed in separate incidents, with the first shooting occurring at a traffic light in Wild Chestnut Street, Protea, and the second in Tshithuthune Street, Mapetla, where the driver lost control of the bus after being shot. i
On Wednesday the bus service announced that its services would remain suspended as the City of Johannesburg is working with police to develop a safety plan and escorts for bus drivers.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said that the motive for the shooting remains unclear, but investigations are ongoing.

According to TimesLIVE, Kenny Kunene offered a huge cash reward to anyone with information on the link to the two murders. Kunene emphasised the need for public assistance in catching the suspects.
“I would like to do my bit. I have had a long time to think and it is my view that we need to assist the police. I therefore commit R100,000 to anyone who will assist the police in apprehending these barbarians. I will not wait for the case to be finalised,” Kunene said.
“As long as the police have confirmed that they have evidence linking those who have been arrested to this act, I will make the R100 000 available to whoever assists the police,” he added.
According to News24, Kunene believes the killings were orchestrated and said it has left families without their loved ones.
“Killing innocent people has left women widowed, children [orphaned], fathers, brothers and grandfathers have been taken away from their families,” he said. He added that the incident had “caused trauma throughout Soweto and throughout the Rea Vaya community”.
An inquest has been opened, and two murder cases are being investigated.
