Cape Town – The sons of the late ANC MP Tina Joemat-Pettersson have reportedly issued a statement regarding their mother’s passing.
They said she died at her home on Monday, 5 June “ in the comfort of her home”.
“The cause of death at this stage is unknown and we ask that members of the public and media allow the authorities to complete their processes,” her sons said.
“The president has personally shared his heartfelt condolences with the family. He also shared some fond memories he shared with Tina,” Times Live quoted the sons as saying.
The ANC is set to honour Joemat-Pettersson with a national memorial service in her hometown of Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
The party’s first deputy secretary-general, Nomvula Mokonyane, announced this week that Joemat-Pettersson’s brother would work with the ANC to prepare for the service, News24 reported.

“The family appreciates all the messages and calls that have been coming through. The children also appreciate it very much. Of importance is the further request that we should give the family the space to mourn and prepare for a decent burial,” the report quoted Mokonyane as saying.
The ANC Women’s League will also hold its own memorial service.
Joemat-Pettersson was a stalwart member of the women’s league and was vying for the position of deputy president at its upcoming conference, the report said.
The ANC leadership has extended condolences and offered support to the family.
Prior to her death, there were allegations that she had asked for a bribe in connection with an inquiry into the fitness of the suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane to hold office.
