Cape Town – Johannesburg has experienced a third earthquake in three weeks, with the latest one measuring a magnitude of 2.2.
It was recorded in the south of the city on Wednesday night, just before 23:00.
The earthquake’s epicentre was located near Harmony Doornkop Gold Mine in Vlakfontein, Soweto, according to the Council for Geoscience (CGS).

The CGS believes that the earthquake was likely induced by mining activities.
Last week, another earthquake with a magnitude of 2.1 occurred in the south of Johannesburg, and the previous one on June 11 had a magnitude of 4.4 and originated from the Boksburg area.
