Cape Town – A Johannesburg mother from Springs won nearly R4 million in the Powerball jackpot in the Powerball draw on 4 July.
She played the game through the Standard Bank banking app and received an unexpected SMS notification about her win.
The winner, whose identity remains undisclosed for security reasons, plans to use the money to install solar panels at her business premises to ensure an uninterrupted power supply and avoid load shedding.
“While her usual routine involved purchasing tickets and having any winnings deposited directly into her bank account, this time, she received an unexpected SMS notification that led to the realisation of her incredible fortune.
“The lucky winner, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, couldn’t contain her excitement upon discovering the magnitude of her winnings,” said National Lottery Ithuba in a statement.
Ithuba congratulated the winner and expressed their excitement about transforming lives through the Powerball game.
“This victory showcases the potential of the National Lottery to create extraordinary opportunities for individuals and families.
