Cape Town – The Economic Freedom Fighters have condemned the release of anti-apartheid hero, Chris Hani’s killer, Janusz Waluś, saying that the convicted killer did not show remorse nor revealed the identity of those he worked with.
The party described his release as “a mark of the ultimate victory of fundamentalism over the needs and aspirations of the majority of South Africa’s people”.
Waluś was freed on parole on Wednesday, December 7 under “strict conditions” in line with a decision by the Constitutional Court.
The Constitutional Court ordered his parole release after he had served nearly three decades for the murder of Hani.
Following the release order, the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) led a gathering outside the court to protest the decision.

Walus, 69, had initially been scheduled to be released last week on Thursday, but was stabbed in prison and resulting in the delay of his release as he recovered.
“We condemn Waluś’ release as it is abhorrent and shows scant regard to the nature of the crime that was committed by this murderous maniac. Janusz Waluś not only killed a man, but his bullet also shattered the hopes of millions of our people and almost pushed this country into war.

“His killing of Hani was an assassination of the very idea of freedom itself, and the killing of Hani was not merely murder, it was treasonous,” the EFF said in a statement.
EFF said that when the ConCourt authorised his release, it did not consider Hani’s family or the citizens of South Africa who were fond of Chris Hani.
“There must be a thorough assessment of the vested interests that our courts seem to be protecting and advancing, and black people must carefully understand that a captured judiciary means for their aspirations for emancipation.
“We condemn this release; it is repugnant and shows that black pain and suffering is of no concern in this country. Whites have centred themselves in almost every key aspect of life post 1994, and our courts continue to affirm whites as the centre of life in this country,” said the EFF.
