Cape Town — “The way my brother was lying on the floor, as blood flowed out of his body, was a sight we, as a family, will never forget,” said the sister of a man who was stabbed 17 times by one of his close friends at Seal Street in Gleemoor, Cape Town.
According to News24, the alleged murderer lived with the family of the deceased for over six months. Mariam, the sister of the victim, Bassier Van Der Schyff, said that they had been on a night out when an argument ensued in the car.
The next morning Mariam and her mother found Bassier lifeless in his bedroom. She said that two friends witnessed the fatal stabbing.
IOL reports that the case had been withdrawn at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court due to a lack of evidence.
“How is it possible that the man who murdered my brother in my house, handed himself to the police station voluntarily – and my mother was called to identify him – does not appear before the magistrate but walks home from custody as if nothing happened?,” Mariam was quoted as saying.
SAPS Spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk, said the motive for the murder is yet to be determined, Voice of the Cape reports.
“This station awaits the docket from court to see further instructions,” Van Wyk was quoted as saying.
