Cape Town – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has expressed his shock at the passing of celebrity makeup artist, Maja Janeska.
The 39-year-old was found dead on Friday, December 2, in Johannesburg after reportedly sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
This was after police received calls about a person who killed herself in Bassonia Estate and an inquest investigation was opened reports said.
Malema described Janeska as “a very lovely lady” who spoke her mind openly, adding that he hoped the police investigation would be able to give Janeska’s family answers, reported IOL.
He expressed his condolences to Janeska’s family and his friend cigarette tycoon, Kyle Phillips who was dating the celebrity makeup artist, the report said.
“I haven’t spoken to Kyle but I knew her very well. We were friends.
“She was a very lovely lady, forward-looking and she had very good plans for the continent and the country and held our leadership in high regard,” the report quoted Malema as saying.
He said that she didn’t appear as the type that would kill herself.
“It came as a shock that she can kill herself. But you’ll never know.
“She never came across to me as the type that had a potential to kill herself,” Malema was quoted as saying.
According to News24, the passing of the popular North Macedonian Instagram influencer, whose 1.2 million followers included Malema and celebrities like Boity, Pearl Thusi and Tamara Dey, had left her family in Europe and her friends in South Africa reeling.
A relative, who requested to remain anonymous, said that they were unable to travel to SA due to VISA issues, the report said.
“Our phones haven’t stopped ringing; this is all new to us. We are in Europe, and our hands are tied because we can’t come to South Africa because of visa issues. [Janeska] is lying there in some mortuary, and we don’t have any clue as to what is actually happening,” the relative was reported as saying.
