Cape Town – The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is looking into a case of death that occurred when a suspect got into a brawl with police officers, who subsequently shot him dead.
According to The Citizen, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, December 24, when members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) from vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, received information about a wanted suspect accused of murdering a woman, raping his girlfriend, and then brutally assaulting her on Thursday.
The police went to Hertz Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark, where the suspect was believed to be.
However, on their arrival, they didn’t find him.

After awhile, the suspect arrived, knocked on the door, and one of the officers opened for him.
The officer was taken aback when he noticed the suspect was clutching a knife. He told him to drop the knife, but the suspect instead charged towards him. The officer then shot him on the right thigh.
The suspect allegedly swiftly grabbed the pistol’s barrel, resulting in both of them grappling for the firearm.
Another officer on the scene attempted to break up the brawl between his colleague and the suspect, but he was unsuccessful. Instead, the suspect grabbed the second officer’s gun and pointed it at him. But the officer quickly drew his own gun and shot the suspect in the abdomen.
The suspect succumbed to his injuries as a result of four gunshots. He died on the scene.
IPID took to its Twitter page to confirm that it was investigating the matter.
