Cape Town – Gauteng police have reportedly opened an inquest docket after a man allegedly killed himself at Hill police station on Wednesday.
The 52-year-old man allegedly shot himself in the head and died at the scene, reports said.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said the man entered the police station around 11:00 and he was like any other person coming to seek police services, reported News24.
Masondo said the man told officers “there are people following me; I can see people following me”, the report said.

Police, however, couldn’t see anyone following him.
“When police were trying to assist him, he pulled out a firearm and shot himself,” the report quoted Masondo as saying.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the man was a security guard at one of the shops in Hillbrow and the firearm he used was licensed to him, Jacaranda FM reported.
The report said that police had since opened an inquest docket for an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, officers and civilians who witnessed the ordeal were reportedly receiving counselling.
