Cape Town – Former president Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane, has reportedly called on the old generation to leave the country in the youth’s hands, announcing that he will contest the country’s presidential election next year as an independent candidate.
The young Zuma has been quite vocal about his ambition to become the country’s next president, often stating, however, that he is not a politician.
The KwaZulu-Natal ANC ward 11 chairperson and businessman shared his aspirations to become president campaign while speaking to the Daily News on Monday, reported IOL.
He would be the first ANC member to content the country’s presidential election as an independent candidate, the report said.
Speaking on his ANC membership, Zuma said he did not need permission from anyone “to do the right thing”, stating that he had notified his father about his decision and that it would be up to the ANC to decide what action it would take against him for “doing the right”, the report said.

“We need change and I believe I am the change this country needs now. The time has come for us as youth to take the running of the country into our hands. It is now the time for old people to gracefully leave and let us take the country forward,” the report quoted Zuma as saying.
If elected Zuma plans to do away with “useless lekgotlas and izimbizo” and take action on job creation.
He said he will fight crime by industrialising the country, which will generate more job opportunities, the report said.
Zuma’s campaign comes shortly after President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Electoral Bill into law which was passed by the National Assembly in February, reported EWN.
The report said parliament had requested two extensions to the 24-month deadline imposed by the court, to revise the law.
After a legal challenge mounted by the New Nation Movement, the Constitutional Court declared the electoral law unconstitutional for only allowing political parties to be represented in provincial and national legislatures, the report said.
