Cape Town – Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber has vowed to intensify the crackdown on illegal immigration, promising increased inspections across various sectors to deport illegally employed individuals
He said that controlling the borders is crucial for South Africa’s economic growth and investment attraction.
“In the coming year, Home Affairs will increase the number of inspections at restaurants, spaza shops, farms and mines by 50% in order to take action against people illegally employed, including through seportations.

“South Africa needs to do much more to combat illegal immigration. We must do so both because it is central to our national security, but also out of our commitment to economic growth.
“No one will want to visit or invest if we allow our country to lose control over its borders and internal security,” Schreiber said on Monday.
Several parties in Parliament highlighted the insufficient funding of the Border Management Authority (BMA) during Monday’s debate on the Home Affairs Department’s budget.
So far, the BMA has intercepted and deported nearly 300 000 individuals attempting to enter the country illegally.
