Cape Town – The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has released the final lists of political parties and independent candidates for the upcoming National and Provincial Elections.
This marks a historic moment as independent candidates will now contest seats in the National Assembly and provincial legislatures following a law signed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in April 2023.
The IEC released the lists on its website on Wednesday and has also distributed them to all of its offices.
Six independent candidates will vie for National Assembly seats and six for provincial legislature positions.
The Electoral Code of Conduct has been in effect since February 23, with all national contestants publicly pledging adherence to it on April 4.
Provincial pledge signing ceremonies will follow.
The General Election is scheduled for May 29, marking South Africa’s seventh democratic election. The final candidate lists are available on the IEC website.
