Cape Town – A 62-year-old man, Lovangavasan Rajagopaul, reportedly cried foul after receiving a R500 fine for parking in reverse outside Addington Hospital in Durban on Wednesday.
According to Times Live, Rajagopaul said that batteries were frequently stolen in the area, so he decided to park in reverse so the guard could get a better view.
Durban metro police said that Rajagopaul’s vehicle was facing oncoming traffic, and therefore, disrupting traffic flow.
But Rajagopaul disagreed with the police, saying that his car was not impeding traffic in any way.

He turned to Facebook for help.
“Hi wonderful people can someone justify a R500 fine for parking reverse at Addington hospital my reason to avoid my battery being stolen it’s a hot spot area theft out of motor vehicles I was not obstructing the flow of traffic feeling so sad,” wrote Rajagopaulin a Facebook post.
Many Facebook users who saw the post encouraged Rajagopaul to file a complaint.
The police said that once Rajagopaul filed the complaint, an investigation will begin.
“If the result of the internal investigation shows that there was something wrong on the charge, the charge will be withdrawn. But for us to start the investigation, the complainant needs to come to our office to fill in a complainant yellow form where he will explain his side of the story,” Times Live quoted Durban metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu as saying.
