Cape Town — A single father has won over R38 million in the National Lottery jackpot and is already making big plans for his winnings.
The National Lottery Ithuba confirmed that the lucky winner hit the jackpot of R38,517,450 on January 8, 2025.
The man discovered his life-changing win after checking his numbers online. Overjoyed, he shared the news with his teenage child before taking a bath to calm himself.
“I immediately shared the news with my teenage child and went to take a bath to calm myself,” he told Ithuba, according to TimesLIVE .
The father revealed that his winnings will go toward essential needs, including buying a house and securing their future.
“While taking care of the essentials, I also want to spoil my child and invest some of the winnings to secure our future,” he said.
Additionally, he plans to enrol in a business course to equip himself for this new chapter of his life.
“I’m excited to start this new chapter of my life,” he added.

According to IOL, Ithuba CEO, Charmaine Mabuza, was excited to welcome the new Lotto winner and wished him well for the opportunities that lay ahead.
“We are thrilled that this deserving father can now embrace new opportunities and build a brighter future for himself and his family.
“We wish him all the best on this exciting journey.”
Ithuba reminded its players that winnings are paid out within 72 hours of a valid claim and all lottery winnings are tax-free.
